2009 ...

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.

HAPPY 'oh-nine'

I know, I know! The lyrics say '89, but I've decided to resurrect it for 'oh-nine'.

[ More than 20 thanks for the correction, Cath! ] Nearly 30 years on (the song was first released in 1979) and they're still good to look at and listen to.

Such memories!

Poignant, or what?

Roll out the old, roll in the new ...

Very poignant memories.
I love Abba. I love their music and I love the individuals in the group. Very talented, touched with some tragedy too.

One of my favourite songs. Although the lyrics say "89", they are talking about '89 being ten years hence. The end of the next decade.
("It's the end of a decade, In another ten years' time, Who can say what we'll find? What lies waiting down the line, In the end of '89?")
It was released at the end of '79 and is almost 30 years old. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Have a peaceful evening my friend. And thanks for the memories.

Thanks for putting me right, Cath. I've edited the text a little ...

No, they don't make 'em like that any more!

I didn't mean to come across as critical... Just imagine I had a glass of wine in my hand as I sang along to the music and was telling you what I was up to as I saw the New Year in to this song in 1982/3....
*sigh*
I popped back over for another listen. Easier than digging the cd out. ;0)
(I can remember 1983/4 too. A much less dignified "Heigh ho Silver Lining...!"

Wonderful piece to introduce the new year! Thanks Terry! I found myself singing along with them. There aren't many groups these days that make me want to do that. Thanks for the memories and Happy New Year!

Peace! Hope! & Joy!

Ahhh, good old Abba, like us (fingers crossed behind my back) thank goodness they are timeless, eh? Grin.

Happy new year to you too, Fletch. I have high hopes for 2009, 2008 brought a lot of changes for me, mostly - I believe - for the good. I have a lot of optimism for what lies ahead. You also should see much reward, hopefully by this time next year, you and yours should have completed this massive project, and will be reaping the rewards of all the hard work and dedication that it has taken. Happy days indeed, huh?

Thinks - as long as the OLD's being rolled out here (or anywhere, come to that!) aren't us...

@ Cath,
Didn't read it as 'critical' and yes, I can recall quite a few New Year's Eve get-together's at which the song has been a staple.

@ Lee,
"Peace and Joy" back at you ...

@ Carol,
Thanks for the good wishes for 2009. And yes, when the 'massive project' is finished I am sure we will look back with wonderment that it actually DID get completed. Even if I stagger around in my 'Zimmer'!

@ Penny,
No way they're going to get rid of us 'oldies' that easily. For my part, they'd have to carry me out kicking and screaming. You wait and see!
